Creating products of elegance and uniqueness

Hello, I live on the South West coast of Devon in the UK with my partner, two daughters, and two little cats, all of whom I adore dearly. I confess that I am a huge tea addict, and supply myself with endless cups of tea on a daily basis.

It was during my final year of my BA (Hons) Degree in Illustration (at Arts University Plymouth) in 2018 that I started to develop the designs that are now featured in my homeware collection and fashion accessories. In January 2019, six months after graduating, I applied and was selected to exhibit at ‘Spotted’, Top Drawer London (which showcases new and emerging designers and businesses). It was all quite a whirlwind and this was when my business was launched.

One of the strongest influences and a theme which flows through my designs is a mix of my Singaporean and English heritage. My mum was from Singapore and having been on numerous trips to visit family, and growing up with her Asian influence, this has had a clear impact on my designs today. My dad’s love of colour in his home was super inspiring (sometimes off the wall - I guess in today’s world he would be known as a ‘maximalist’).

In 2022 I launched my first wallpaper collection which was a huge leap for myself on a personal and business level. During the build up of releasing my wallpapers I lost both my beloved mum and my dad less than four months apart to cancer (towards the end of 2021). My work has given me focus, and also, the creativity that I pour into each design really is a labour of love. I hope that this shows, and that you enjoy my work as much (if not more) than I do.

One of my favourite aspects of being a creative designer is the opportunity to blend my multi-ethnic upbringing and influences into something that is truly my own. By combining the boldness of Asian textiles with the refinement of English design, I aim to create pieces that are both innovative and timeless.

Amanda West’s designs are inspired by the exquisite hues of Asian silk garments and the movement of nature, combined with the harmonious aesthetics of flora and fauna. The design process used is often mixed media, using various mark making and collage to give texture to motifs. By digitally merging all elements together, the final designs are formed.

Texture plays a huge part in the design process, which is evident in the fine detail produced on every illustration. These images combined with ethically sourced luxurious and tactile fabrics, make her products truly unique.
