Transform your home to heaven!
Plain walls can instantly be transformed into something beautiful, and wallpaper or a mural can create an interesting talking point too.
Bland walls can be so uninviting, and can sometimes make a room feel so lifeless. A wall mural is a fabulous way to bring personality into a room or an uninspiring space.
During the first lockdown in March 2020, it was a bit of downtime from daily life, and I needed a project that was totally different to anything I would normally be doing in my day to day life. When both my daughters were younger I was always painting murals on their walls, and during this period I was commissioned to paint murals on other peoples’ walls too. As life got busier and after moving away, mural paintings was not something that I pursued. Fast forward to March 2020. I was inspired to paint a wall mural on our dining room wall (as it was a bland boring white space!) and from the moment I put my paintbrush on the wall my little ball of creativity inside me just went into overdrive.
I wanted to paint something that would be calming and graceful with pops of beautiful colour, and I wanted it to reflect my Asian heritage. My design was influenced by the Japanese cranes as they are so majestic and elegant, and their white plumage is stunning. Did you know that in Japan they symbolise longevity, good luck and happiness? Beautiful symbols of positivity to have in the home.
The style of my painting, in particular the Red Crowned Cranes were inspired by the stylised curves of the Art Deco movement. I absolutely love that era and take great in inspiration from the lines and forms of that time. As the painting came together I used a deep, rich gold paint to bring the whole design together.
Now, instead of staring at a plain wall we have a wall that adds personality to the room. It takes your eyes across the wall, and I find it so uplifting to see it first thing every day.
If you would like to have one of these murals on one of your walls then you can! These are now available through Robin Sprong Wallpapers, along with a few more of my designs too. Take a peek and see which one you would fancy….
Above is the finished mural used as a feature wall and it has a deep midnight blue backdrop instead of white. Both colour-ways give a totally different vibe to their spaces, and they help bring a room together. See more here.
